When a man is praying for a clean heart, it means that he had entertained sinful imaginations. David was a man after God's own heart and God loved him dearly. However, every man have evil intensions and iniquity within them.
Our hearts are always imagining evil deeds, even when we are not intentionally thinking evil, those thoughts tend to pop up. We naturally think this way because of our sinful nature.
The Bible said: "we sin when we think not." So David must have had sin in his heart when he asked God to create in him a clean heart. This prayer is a prayer for forgiveness.
When we know that there is sin in our lives, we should find the altar and repent before the LORD. All of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
There is not one of us who can say "I don't need to ask God for a clean heart." No sin cannot enter into heaven, and we need to make sure that we cleans ourselves from every transgressions while we still have time.
When we start over with our spiritual lives, we should seek to have the right spirit. As we grow older, add more knowledge to our resume, and gain more experience, we can sometimes become inconsistent in maintaining a right spirit.
We get older as the years go by and often times we become burdened down with the cares of this life. To be in such a situation, will make us cry out to God for a clean heart like David.
We need to daily walk in the spirit and not fulfil the lust of the flesh. When we walk in the spirit, we invite the presence of the LORD into our lives.
When we talk about a clean heart, we are talking about God's grace which is the root of holiness, working on our mess.
When our hearts are pure and we have confessed our sins, we are availing ourselves to be used by God.
The Holy Ghost is the only One that can renew a right spirit within us. AS we humble ourselves and surrender to God, He keeps our spirit pure and steadfast for his purpose.
