To understand bible study you first need to have a relationship with God. The crave and hunger to learn more about God's Word started when you repent and make a decision to live for Jesus.
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Bible study is not just so you can have a closer relationship with God, Bible studying equips you with biblical knowledge so you can do God's work effectively.
You cannot go to a congregation to preach about somebody that you have no knowledge about. So since God gave us everything we need to know about Him in the Bible, let us study it to show ourselves approved unto Him.
You must first seek to understand the gospel before you seek to preach to the church, because God cannot speak through us if we don't spend time seeking His face through Bible Study.
For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:
Since the scriptures were written for our learning and development, it is critical that we feast upon the Word of God. Bible Study should be something that we do everyday, and not just when we go to church.
If we are impatient, bible study will seem like a waste of time, because there has to be a deep interest and hunger for more of God. Therefore if we want to truly know God's Word, we will have to invest a lot of time into our bible study.
The study of the Word of the Lord is what helps us to become likeminded believers. God wants us to be on one accord in our relationships with Him.
When we study the Word of God together as believers, we are building a spirit of unity and togetherness.
When we study the Bible, we don't just read through and consume it like a novel. The content of the bible is God's instructions to mankind/humans about life and how to live it purposefully. We need to study our Bible like we are about to do an exam, because there will be a lot of temptations to test how strong our faith is.
You will need a Bible dictionary when you make the decision to go on a Bible study journey with the Lord. Because your regular Webster dictionary will not help to explain biblical word meanings.
You need commentaries and biblical word study books to fully grasp and understand the bible. Your Bible studying will sometimes take you upon some difficult to understand text. This is where your Bible dictionary and commentary come in handy.
Bible study can sometimes be rough, because the original text were written in Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew. To clearly understand the translated versions, you need to study the original language.
The serious bible study student will go the extra mile and seek a better understand by going after the original language.
When you seriously decide to start studying your bible, you need to be alone with God and of course, your Bible.
You need to stay focused while on Bible study, and eliminate all distractions. God needs your undivided attention when you are studying His Word.
Things you will need for the study and note taking are: Your Bible, the presence of God, Bible dictionary, Bible Commentary, writing book, pen, pencil, highlighter and of course stay focus.
Always remember to pray before you commence your Bible study, because prayer is the pace setter in everything you do. Pray for clarity, pray for concentration, pray for wisdom, pray for knowledge and pray for understanding.
I hope this helps as you seek how to study your Bible more effectively and have a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus.
God bless you much!!!
