Bible Study, what is it?

Understanding bible study

To understand bible study you first need to have a relationship with God. The crave and hunger to learn more about God's Word started when you repent and make a decision to live for Jesus.

 2 Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Bible study is not just so you can have a closer relationship with God, bible studying equips you with biblical knowledge so you can do God's work effectively.

You cannot go to a congregation to preach about somebody that you have no knowledge about. You must first seek to understand the gospel before you seek to preach to the church.

Romans 15:4-5

For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:

Since the scriptures were written for our learning and development, it is critical that we feast upon the Word of God. Let bible study be something that you do everyday, and not just when you go to church.

Patience and bible study are closely related. Because if you want to truly know God's Word, you will have to invest a lot of time into your bible study.

The study of the Word of the Lord is what helps us to become likeminded believers. God wants us to be on one accord in our relationship with Him.

When we study the Word of God together as believers, we are building a spirit of unity and togetherness.

How to study the bible:

When you study the bible, don't just read through and consume it like a novel. The bible is God's instruction to man about life. You need to study your bible like you will be doing an exam.

You need a bible dictionary when you make the decision to go on a bible study journey with the Lord. Because your regular Webster dictionary will not help to explain biblical word meanings.

You need commentaries and biblical word study books to fully grasp and understand the bible. Your bible studying will sometimes take you upon some difficult to understand text. This is where your bible commentary comes in.

Bible study can sometimes be rough, because the original text were written in Greek, Aramaic and Hebrew. To clearly understand the translated versions, we need to study the original language.

The serious bible study student will go the extra mile and seek a better understand by going after the original language.

When you seriously decide to start studying your bible, you need to be alone with God and of course, your bible.

You need to be focused on your bible study and eliminate all distractions. God needs your undivided attention when you are studying His Word.

Things you will need for note taking: writing book, pen, pencil, highlighter and of course stay focus.

Pray before you commence your bible study. Prayer is the pace setter in everything you do. Pray for clarity, concentration, wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
