Remember that whatsoever way you choose to train up your child, whether good or bad, they will not depart from it when they are old.
Many Christian parent have been listening to the teachings of mankind as it pertains to the raising of their children. However, the Bible is full of wisdom on every topic we can think of including parenting.
Let us not turn to mankind and their teachings for ideas on parenting, but let us turn to the Word of GOD.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
The Christian parent must first know the way before they commence the training. The way the child should go is written in the Scriptures, they are not hidden from us. Our present problem is not that we don't have a Bible, but that we don't take pains to read it.
There are many ways from many books about how to train up our children, but the Bible is the foundation upon which all those books stand.
Since publishers are using the Bible as the main source to give you parenting advice, (and they should) you can go to your Bible for instruction as well.
I am not saying that those books aren't wonderful books, because I am sure they are. What I am saying is, you need to go to the Bible for answers more than you go to your books.
Remember that whatsoever way you choose to train up your child, whether good or bad, they will not depart from it when they are old.
Proverbs 29:17
Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight unto your soul.
This verse is not addressing Christian parent only, but is also speaking to non-Christians as well. To correct your child means to discipline them. Tell them that what they are doing is wrong, and show them the right way.
If we sit and smile with them as they practice their bad deeds, we will regret what they turn out to be. When we take pains to correct them over and over, we will be pleased to see the men and women they grow up to be.
We also need to teach them the word of GOD, because this is greatly important. The Word of GOD is quick and powerful, and it will stay with them and keep them for a lifetime.
With all of that said; the best way to train up a child whether you are a Christian parent or no, is by living what you are teaching them.
Children are quicker to do what you do than what you say, so you will have to practice everything that you are teaching them. This cannot be over-emphasized. All the best on your parenting journey.
God bless you.
