Christian Revival is an improvement in our Christian lives where we experience a higher heights and deeper depths in God. This is where we that are in the Church are experiencing the awesome presence of God in our lives.
Christian Revival is an outpouring of the Spirit of God upon the body of Christ, which causes an awakening of spiritual gifts as the presence of God moves upon His people. Joel 2:28-32
In Revival, miracles occur and it drives believers to witnesss, and through witnessing the body of Christ multiplies and more souls are added to the Kingdom of God. Acts 2:47.
A Revival will only come to a Church who desperately seeks God.
When I think of the word Revival, the first word that came to mind is Restoration. Restoration is the act of returning something to a former owner, place or condition.
You can only need revival if you are in a dormant position. So I believe that Christian Revival is when a believer decides to reawaken their zeal to a more fervent relationship with God or being awaken from a state of stagnation to restoration.
Revival could be explained as a situation or condition in which a dying thing is resurrected back to life Therefore Christian revival is an indication to bring back Christians to God. Revivalism is the launching pad in the rebuilding of spiritual life in the Church.
Revival in the Church will undoubtedly reflect in our society as revived congregation will stand a better chance of preaching the good news of salvation. Additionally, the moral decay including other social ills facing the society could be addressed in the best possible way.
Revived church would mean revived society for Christ. revival helps the Christians to avoid and incorporate worldly beliefs, thus, embracing sound doctrines of the gospel of Jesus Christ. According to 2 Timothy 4:3, it was clearly stated that, for the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine but itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their desires.
Christian revival is the word of God. According to Ezekiel 37, God asked Ezekiel if those dry bones could live and he answered, 'Lord, thou knowest...' It is the spoken word that caused breath to enter the body. If the word of God cannot revive us, nothing else will.
On many occasions, as the church approaches convention, "Revival" theme would be used as a guide. At the end of the excitement and speaking in tongues, our lifestyles remain the same. Regardless of conventions, the word of God is what keeps us. Hence, if we don't spend quality time studying and meditating on God's word, nothing else will revive us.
I believe Christian Revival is important for the Church, because it helps the Church to grow more in God by doing His will. It helps to pull or draw unsaved souls to God or saved souls to God.
It also helps us to walk in the spirit by not fulfilling the lust of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16).
Peter after being revived on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2:14-20; told the truth to the persons who were confused as how the disciples spoke in tongues on the day of Pentecost.
When the Church has a Revival, it can enable persons to speak the truth or the fact that persons are ignorant of. Peter went into the temple at the hour of prayer and saw a man at the gate called beautiful.
Peter being prayerful told the man, "silver and gold have I none, but such as I have give I thee: in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."
The Man received his healing.
The revival in Peter's life allowed him to have faith and to have faith and to perform a miracle.'
Christian revival is important for the Church because it brings total transformation in the body of Christ.
Revival also brings:
It is very important for the Church because it propels the body of Christ to seek the face of the Lord and His direction in order to function accurately. Jeremiah 29:13, Psalm 63:1, Matthew 7:7, Psalm9:10
Revival will cause major growth in the body of Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Ghost will take place because everyone will be on one accord. See Acts chapter 2.
There must be serious seeking if we are to be truly revived, especially in these times where the coming of the Lord is near.
Christian Revival is important to the Church because Christ is the ultimate sacrifice and the head of the Church so we must maintain our integrity in Him.
Christian Revival is very vital in the church for spiritual revival. With the absence of Christian Revival, you are spiritually dead. When a person is deprived of life, they are no longer alive which means that they lack the energy to move, see, hear or respond.
As believers, if these physical senses are not functioning, we can never experience revival. It is very important to stay connected to our Source of survival (Jesus Christ) so that we can hear from Him in order to do His will and accomplish His work because revival also advances the causes of the gospel.
Our spiritual eyes have to be open for directions and revelations. Whenever we repent and turn to God, the veil is taken away from our eyes. 2Corinthians 3:16
Another important reason why Christian Revival is important, is that we will walk according to the will of God and respond to His voice which is obedience.
When we are spiritually revived, we will desire to feel more and more of His presence, because in His presence, there is fullness of joy. Psalm 16:11
When we are filled with joy we will never cease from rejoicing, and we will desire to know more about God and there will be a hunger to go to deeper depths and higher heights in Him.
In Him we live and move and exist. Acts 17:28
The Apostle Paul also admonishes us to not be lacking in zeal but to keep our spiritual fervor in our service to the Lord. Romans 12:11
Christian revival is and will forever be important for the following reasons:
a. To prevent the church from being lukewarm.
The things about lukewarm Christians are that:
i. They only seek God's face when they are in deep trouble. It is widely believed that people seek God's face whenever they are deeply in trouble. For example, the unemployed, sick people or even barren women desire God's favor during their down time. Often times though, these people tend to turn their backs on God like the nine lepers who failed to return thanks after been healed from leprosy.
ii. They twist the scriptures to justify their sinful desires. Lack of revival among Christians, pave the way for Christians to easily justify their sinful acts by simply saying, "God understand and I am human." According the KJV 1 Peter 1:16 states: because it is written, be ye holy; for I am holy. It is therefore expected of us as Christians to use this passage of scripture as a yard stick through which our relationships with God is measured.
The Bible clearly states according to Revelation 3: 14-16; To the angel of the church in Laodicea writes: these are the words of the amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation. I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot, I wish you were either one or the other so because you are lukewarm neither hot nor cold, I am about to spit you out of my mouth.
WHAT ARE THE CONSEQUENCES IF CHRISTIAN REVIVAL IS ABSENT IN THE CHURCH?
When we have the Spirit of God, it is a form of revival. God says in Romans 8:9 that any man that doesn't have His Spirit belongs not to Him. This person will not experience God's power in his/her life.
Peter after receiving the revival on the day of Pentecost preached to the souls and these souls were baptized and the same day were added unto the Church about three thousand souls. Revival in the church can cause unsaved to turn to God.
The consequence if revival is absent from the body of Christ leads to spiritual stagnation. Once there is spiritual stagnation, the operation and the presence of the Lord will eventually depart from the Church.
Because men will now become heady/high-minded and start depending on self to and no longer want to seek the leading of the Holy Ghost.
When the presence of the Lord is departed from the Church, sin enters and the people of God becomes rebellious . When this happen, God will have to leave them to their reprobate mind because when we are unwilling to walk in His will there can be no revival. Romans 1:28
When revival is lacking, the Church can no longer discern and as a result the enemy creeps in unaware. Jude 1:4
Souls will no longer be added to the body of Christ because the spirit of complacency will take over. Revelation 3:13 speaks about the Laodician Church that was lukewarm, and because of that God spew them out of His mouth. Hosea 4:6 says; the people of God perish because of a lack of knowledge.
If revival is absent from our Churches, we will become blind and we will be led away from the spiritual lifestyle and the flesh will take dominion thus losing sight of Christ and our gift of salvation.
The consequences of a lack of revival in the church would result in the following:
