The Importance Of The Crucifixion of Jesus.

The Crucifixion Of Jesus Christ

PURPOSE OF THE CRUCIFIXION.

The crucifixion was a very important part of the salvation plan. Many persons asked the question "if Jesus is God, why He didn't just destroy the men who were crucifying Him and set Himself free?" This was not what the writers of the Old Testament Scriptures declared of Him.

Jesus had to fulfill exactly what were written of Him by the Old Testament writers and set an example for His Disciples to follow. The Scripture said He would be wounded for our transgression,  bruised for our iniquity and the chastisement of our peace would be upon Him.

Isaiah 53:5

This particular Scripture spoke of the crucifixion of Jesus, and Jesus came so that this prophecy might be fulfilled. Had He defended Himself and destroyed the soldiers who were crucifying Him, our salvation would not be possible.

The purpose of the crucifixion was to bring about our salvation. This means that in order for our sins to be forgiven, there had to be blood shed. Because without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sin.

Hebrews 9:22

THE CRUCIFIXION CAUSES BLOOD SHED WHICH IS REQUIRED FOR SALVATION.

Throughout the Old Testament Scriptures, there were always blood shed of animals whenever someone sinned in the camp of the Israelites, or when there were sacrificial ceremonies.

However, the blood of sheep and doves was ineffective to forgive the sins of the whole human race. So Christ came and humbled Himself as a sheep to be slaughtered, so that His rich blood could be shed for you and for me.

THREE EVENTS THAT MAKE THE SALVATION  PLAN COMPLETE.

There are three events that make the salvation plan complete, they are:

  • THE DEATH OF JESUS.

This typifies the crucifixion of Jesus upon the cross which of course caused His death. This also points to our own death from sin by our repentance and a loss of appetite for those things.

  • THE BURIAL OF JESUS.

His burial points to our baptism, and this is why we do not believe baptism should be sprinkling but rather, immersion. Just as Jesus was completely buried in the heart of the earth, so must we be completely buried under water which typifies His burial.

  • THE RESURRECTION OF JESUS.

The resurrection of Jesus typifies the infilling of the Holy Ghost, which is God's Spirit living in us. As Christ was raised from the dead, so His Spirit will quicken our mortal bodies and raise us from the dead at the appointed time.

CONCLUSION

We understand that the crucifixion was necessary for our salvation, because it was declared by Old Testament writers and uttered out of the mouth of prophets to be so.

We also understand that without the shedding of blood, there can be no remission of sins. There were many sacrificial blood shedding in the Old Testament Scriptures, but they were all pointing to Christ.

Finally, we understand that the the salvation plan is completed in the crucifixion I.e. (Christ death) His burial and His resurrection. This also points to our repentance, baptism and infilling of the Holy Ghost.
