What Is The Tribulation Period In The Bible?

The Tribulation

Introduction.

Greetings,

In this study, we will observe what The Tribulation is and provide you with Scriptures around it's teaching in the Bible.

It is not possible to provide you with all the information that you may be seeking in this brief article; however we will explain this topic to the best of our knowledge.

We truly hope that whatever you learnt here, will help in some way as you continue your research on this topic.

What Is The Tribulation?

According to the Bible, The Tribulation is a period of 7 years of the discipline and wrath of God. This discipline will be poured out upon Israel for the 1st 3 1/2 years; and gets more severe with the wrath of God upon the world of unbelievers who rejected Him. Daniel 12:1

The diseases, wars, earthquakes, famines, devastations and natural disasters we see in the earth today, are just a tiny part of what will happen in the Tribulation. Joel 2:2, Revelation 16:18

During these times, the Antichrist will sit in the midst of all these evil personifying Satan. The final 3 1/2 years are what the Bible called The Great Tribulation; you can read it here.

Will The Church Be Here In The Tribulation?

No the Church will not be here to experience the seven year nightmare and torment of the Tribulation. God did not appointed for His wrath to be poured out on believers, because they have committed their lives to His service. Revelation 3:10

The wrath of God will be poured out upon all unrepentant and unregenerate people. Matthew 24:21

Close to the Tribulation period the Church will be taken away from the earth in an event the Bible called The Rapture. This event is literally the process of transporting believers to heaven to be with the LORD before the tribulation. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18;  2 Thessalonians 2:8-12;  Matthew 24:29-3;  Revelation 21.

Other Names That Refer To The Tribulation In The Bible.

There are other names in the Bible that referred to the Tribulation. These include:

  • The Day of The LORD. Isaiah 2:12; Joel 1:15; 1 Thessalonians 5:2
  • The Time Of Jacob's Trouble. Jeremiah 30:7
  • The Time Of Trouble. Daniel 12:1; Zephaniah 1:15
  • The Day Of Wrath. Zephaniah 1:15
  • The Day Of Alarm. Zephaniah 1:16
  • The Year Of Recompense.  Isaiah 34:8
  • The Tribulation. Deuteronomy 4:30
  • The Wrath Of God. Revelation 15:1;7 14:10;19 16:1

Regardless of the terms used to describe the tribulation, the fact is it will be a time of great testing for every person on the earth.

How Will The Gospel Be Preached During The Tribulation?

The signs of the times highly indicates that we are nearing the time of the Tribulation. However, God will not leave those left behind to go through those times of great distress and trouble without giving them a chance to repent of their sins through the preaching of the gospel.

The 144,000 Evangelists.

There are 144,000 Jewish Evangelists recorded in Revelation 7&14 who were not defiled with women, which means that they are virgins. Revelation 14:4

These 144,000 Evangelists will be selected in equal number from the 12 tribes of Israel, i.e. 12,000 from each tribe.

These Jewish Preachers will be on a full-time mission to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ during the Tribulation. These servants of God will be easy to recognize because they will have the seal of God in their foreheads. Revelation 7:3

The Two Witnesses

There will be "two witnesses" who will be placed on earth during the first half of the wrath of God to preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ for 1,260 days. Revelation 11:3-12

The Bible did not give the specific names of these two, however, many persons believe that these two will be either Moses and Elijah or Enoch and Elijah. Matthew 17:3-4; Malachi 4:5

Is It True That Nobody Will Be Able To Kill Themselves During The Tribulation?

It is no doubt that the Tribulation will be so devastating that many will seek death; however, during the 5th trumpet judgement, death will be unavailable for a period of 5 months. Revelation 9:6

This chapter describes that satan will be cast from heaven in the form of a star and will be given the key to the bottomless pit.

The devil will use this key to release demons who has the resemblance of locust. Their mission is to torment unbelievers with excruciating pains for 5 months.

These pains will be so devastating that everyone will seek to kill themselves in order to escape those dreadful creatures, but this will not be possible. Revelation 9:1-6

What Will Happen During The Tribulation?

The Antichrist will sign a 7 year covenant with the Nation of Israel; this will commence the Tribulation period. Daniel 9:27

Seven seals will be released upon the earth in an orderly manner; creating extreme destruction upon the land. Revelation 6-8

Then there will be the sounding of seven (7) trumpets which will bring even more devastation upon the land in those days. Revelation 8-11

Sometime after the sixth trumpet the introduction of the two witnesses and the 144,000 Jewish Evangelists are mentioned.

Next we will have the destruction of Babylon the great harlot who led many kings and nations astray. Revelation 17:1-18

There will also be seven vials unleashed upon the earth causing even further pain and torment upon the world of unbelievers. Revelation 16:1-21

All these events will take place because of the hardness of the hearts of mankind to repent of their sins and serve the LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.

What Will Happen After The Tribulation?

After the events of the Tribulation an angel will descend from heaven with the keys to the bottomless pit. His mission is to arrest the Dragon i.e. the Devil/Satan and his demons bound them for 1000 years.

The angel will cast him in the abyss i.e. (the bottomless pit) and after one thousand years are expired he will be released for a very short time. Revelation 20:1-3

During the period of these 1000 years, the Millennium will begin. This is the time when the Kingdom of God will begin its 1000-year reign bringing tremendous blessings to mankind. Revelation 5:9-10 Revelation 20:4-6

There will be a "great crowd' of people coming out of The Great Tribulation whose number is unknown. They will also enjoy and experience the reign of God's Kingdom upon the earth. Psalm 37:9-11; Revelation 7:9, 14

Conclusion.

The Tribulation period is the last week in Daniel's 70 week prophecy. Daniel 9

No one will know the day nor the hour when these things shall happen, so we have a responsibility to live a life that brings God glory every day. Matthew 24:36

Our job as believers is to spread the good news of the gospel, so as many as possible will get a chance to repent of their sins and have a relationship with God before it's too late.
