What being a Christian means?
While all of these may seem obvious to the reader, there are millions of people around the world who call themselves Christians but have none of these qualities.
When you claims that you are a Christian, God is going to expect you to be faithful to the teachings of His words in the Bible. This is part of what being a Christian means.
To be faithful, you need to maintain a life of constant devotion before Him each and every day. We should hold firmly to the hope that we have in Jesus because the God that we serve is a faithful God. Hebrews 10:23
Being a Christian means to trust in the LORD with all your heart and not lean to your own understand. Proverbs 3:5-6
Many persons who claims to be Christians, find it hard to completely trust God. They will pray about something today and expect God to give it to them immediately, and if nothing happens, their trust dies.
However, what being a Christian means, is not losing hope and stop trusting when God doesn't shows up on your deadline.
The Psalmist said: " our soul waits for the LORD, He is our help and our shield. Our heart is glad in Him because we trust in His holy name. Psalm 33:20-22
We need to trust God no matter what our present circumstances are.
Every genuine Christian should be consistent in their faith, integrity and belief in the LORD Jesus. Being a Christian means that you are fully committed to the work of the LORD and not easily discouraged but firmly rooted and consistently serving God because you know that your labor is not in vain in the LORD. 1 Corinthians 15:58
The true Christian believer will consistently stick with the LORD their God, and rebuke the very presence of the devil, because we cannot serve two masters. Luke 16:13
What being a Christian means also is to consistently choose to do good works in our lifetime upon this earth; and that we continually choose to embrace incorruption and sincerity. Titus 2:7-8
To be a true Christian you need to be committed to doing the will of God every day, and trust God to bless and establish you in the earth. Proverbs16:3
Many of us when we first got saved in the Church, we promised God that we would live the rest of our lives for Him if He do this one thing for us.
I know that I am not the only Christian who had made these kind of promises to the LORD and even though God was faithful on His end of the bargain, I was not always faithful.
But as I grew in the word of God, and begun to draw closer to Him, I realized that it is not good to make a vow unto the LORD and then go and break your own words. Numbers 30:2
This is why being a Christian whom God can depend on, requires commitment and being a man or woman of our words.
Love plays a huge role in Christianity, because it was love that led Jesus to the cross to die for you and for me.
God loved the world so much, that He gave up His only Son to die so that if we can only believe in Him, we shall not perish but we shall have everlasting life. John 3:16
If God loved us so much and died for us, even when we were wrapped up in our sins, shouldn't we have love for each other also? Romans 5:8
To love one another is what being a Christian means, because if you call yourself a Christian and do not have love inside of you, you do not know God because God is love. 1 John 4:8
Whether you are a Christian leader, a Christian steward, a Christian missionary, a Christian worker, or even a Christian youth; you have to practice forgiveness.
Forgiving people who have done you wrong is what Christians do, because even God forgave us for Christ sake. Ephesians 4:32
You need to be patient with your brothers and sisters who are weak in the faith and kept offending you due to their lack of integrity and godly discipline. Colossians 3:13
Even though being humble is a very great part of what being a Christian means; most of us are far from it.
Humility is not easy, because the very nature of humanity is full of pride, arrogance and impatience.
But for us to truly bring God glory, and become available for Him to use, we need to pray that the LORD give us the spirit of humility, because God resisteth the proud and giveth grace to the humble. 1 Peter 5:5
To be a Christian means to put on bowels of mercies, maintain a heart that is full of kindness, operate through a mind of humbleness, maintaining a spirit of meekness and endure longsuffering for the cause of Christ. Colossians 3:12
Being a Christian means that you fast, because if you do not fast you won't last.
Jesus did not say 'if you fast,' Jesus said 'when you fast.' Matthew 6:16-18
This means that Jesus expects us to fast. Fasting strengthens the spiritual man of the Christian. Fasting is part of what being a Christian means because when fasting is done correctly, it will loose bands of wickedness, it undo the heavy burdens, it let the oppressed go free and it break every yoke of bondage. Isaiah 58:6
Another very important part of the Christian life and what being a Christian means, is regularly talking to God in prayer, because the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16
Every Christian need God to do something for us, so it is through prayer that we make our request known unto God. Philippians 4:6
Christians communicate with God through prayer, and one of the most important thing in any relationship is communication.
Without prayer, Christians lose connection with God. Christians need to pray without ceasing, and not get slack in their prayer life. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
As a child of God you need to study His word to show yourself approved unto God. 2 Timothy 2:15
Bible study is very important in a Christian's life because without God's word, the believer wouldn't have any reason to give God thanks and praise because the wouldn't know.
The word of God is the weapon that God gave us to overcome the devil and his wicked attacks.
The more of God's word that we have within us, the less likely it is for us to compromise our faith in God.
We have briefly explained in this article what being a Christian means. These ten subtopics are only to give you a basic understanding of what it means to be a Christian.

May God lead you to a life of complete surrender to Him and total commitment to doing His work.
